Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star Decoration, Kingston or Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large brushed cobalt star. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This jar was made in the state of New York, either Manhattan or Kingston. A similar jar was produced in Kingston by the Manhattan-trained potter, Egbert Schoonmaker, and bears his incised inscription on the underside. Rim and base chips. A 5" crack from rim.
