Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, second half 18th century, ovoid jar with narrow, footed base, tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed watchspring motif with scalloped line decoration connecting the two springs. Excellent form and desirable early decoration. One handle restored. Significant filled, but uncolored, exfoliation to body. Some filled rim chips. A filled 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" flake on underside. Two filled base chips.
