One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Daisy Decoration, probably Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a large daisy blossom with dashes interspersed between the petals. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This jug reportedly matches another example, whose location is currently unknown, which bore the date '97 for 1797. A 7" crack on left side of jug with short lines extending off from it. This crack connects to a tight, approximately 5 1/2" line at base. Two base chips. The owner has written the number "97" in black marker below the handle on the reverse.
