Fine Redware Lidded Jar with Manganese Decoration, Huntington, Long Island, New York or Norwalk, CT origin, circa 1840, bulbous jar with footed base, applied lug handles, and tooling to shoulder and midsection, the surface decorated with manganese daubs and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes original domed lid with pointed finial and manganese decoration. Provenance: Collected in the Long Island, New York area. Jar with base chips, typical light rim wear, and some light surface wear. Chips to lid, primarily on underside, including a 1 1/2" chip to underside of lid at edge. H (including lid) 10 1/2".
