One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a brushed design of a grape cluster, situated between a well-detailed leaf and twisting vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Desirable size. Provenance; David Musser Collection. Surface wear around midsection, to touching decoration. Surface wear to rim and bottom edge. A 2 1/8" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim. A 2" crack on underside, continuing 2 1/4" up base of jar on front. Wear to underside. A 1" in-the-firing flake on underside.
