Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Pecking Chicken Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD N.Y.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, featuring a slip-trailed design of a pecking chicken atop a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Restoration to a crack(?) in rim and shoulder area on front, extending to front terminal of right handle. A restored 4 1/2" crack from base on reverse, connecting to a Y-shaped hairline on underside. Restoration to interior of rim. Two additional small chips to interior of rim. A small chip to shoulder molding on reverse.
