Very Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Leach Jug, Signed "George McNeal", Fort Edward, NY origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout and elaborate tooled banding, the surface pierced with numerous holes. Shoulder incised with the signature of the documented Fort Edward, NY potter, "George McNeal", below the number 18. Highly unusual form. An approximately 6" curved horizontal crack at base, which appears to be in-the-firing. A 4" vertical hairline at base. Shallow chipping to interior of spout. H 18 1/2".
