Unusual Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Elaborate New York City Advertising, attributed to William E. Warner, West Troy, NY, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising "WM PARTRIDGE & SONS / DYE STUFFS / DYE WOODS, ACIDS & C / NO. 27 CLIFF STREET / NEW YORK". Decorated below with a boldly-slip-trailed flower blossom motif, characteristic of the work of William E. Warner of West Troy, NY. A 4 1/4" x 4" area of stable exfoliation on reverse. Some other very minor exfoliation to sides. Chips on interior of rim and a minor chip on exterior of rim. A 1 1/2" spider line near one terminal of left handle. A faint 1 3/8" line at base of decoration. Some wear to high points of decoration.
