Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped “E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT:”, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed foliate design featuring heavily-shaded leaves accented with long dotted trails of cobalt slip. Cobalt highlights to maker’s mark and capacity mark. Excellent color. A tight 1 1/2” vertical line at base, probably in-the-firing. Some minor in-the-firing crazing to edge on underside, extending onto base. Two chips to side of spout, one of which is glazed over.
