Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with crest, turned head, and long tail, perched on a tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Long restored crack on right side of jug. A minor nick on interior of spout.
