Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A small handle chip. A 2" hairline from rim on right side of crock. An additional 2" hairline from rim on left side of crock. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse.
