Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Rose Decoration, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two stenciled rose motifs above the stenciled signature of James Hamilton & Co. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Stenciled number 3 with flourishes at base. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Wear to end of one handle. A glazed-over 1" stone ping to side of jar. A small rim chip. Some base wear and very light wear to midsection.
