One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Stenciled Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, applied handle, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated on the reverse with a stylized stenciled design with scalloped border and around the base of the spout with a brushed wreath design. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals, ears, and maker's mark. A crack and tiny chip to one ear. A tiny in-the-firing iron ping to top of rim. A 1" line along edge of handle at base. Some bubbling to cobalt at wreath design and at handle terminals on reverse.
