Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Horse Decoration, Stamped "NORTH BAY," John Waelde, North Bay, New York, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, the front decorated with a stenciled design of a horse tied to a tree. The cobalt slip is applied over the stencil with a sponge, and also sponged freely below the animal to create a ground. Additional sponging forms the leaves of the tree. Maker's mark additionally highlighted with cobalt sponging. Desirable figural decoration and maker. Mint condition. H 11 1/4".
