Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large spotted tulip emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed under one handle with a John Bell maker's mark and three-gallon capacity mark. Very nice condition with a faint, approximately 4" surface line from rim, not visible on interior, an in-the-firing contact mark to same side, and an area of staining extending from base.
