Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Impressed and Coggled Decoration, Stamped "S. AMBOY.N.JERSY", Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with open loop handles, footed base, and heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated on the rim and shoulder area with a coggled column design including a serrated edge. Impressed with a cobalt-highlighted "clamshell" design at the midsection, above the cobalt-highlighted mark, "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY". Additional brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Appealing form with classic Warne & Letts coggling and impressed decoration. Provenance: Ex-W. Oakley Raymond Collection. Includes W. Oakley Raymond Collection labels on underside. A 7 1/2" inverted cross-shaped crack extending from base on left side of front. This crack continues 1 1/2" onto underside. A few shallow base chips.
