Rare Thistle-Pattern Rockingham-Glazed Pitcher, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY CO. / JERSEY CITY, N.J.", circa 1833-1850, with footed base, spurred handle, and elaborate thistle plant design on two sides, the surface covered in a dark reddish-brown Rockingham glaze. A similar example resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. A large restored flake to base. A reglued and colored wedge at rim with short crack descending from it. A second reglued wedge at rim on opposite side of pitcher, with top-to-bottom crack descending from it. H 9 3/4".
