Fine Glazed Redware Bowl with Three-Color Slip Decoration and "Make-Do" Repair, Mid-Atlantic origin, second or third quarter 19th century, tapered bowl with flattened rim, decorated with a wavy yellow-slip stripe around the rim and manganese sponging flanked by bands of green slip on the interior. The interior includes a heavy, clear lead glaze, which imparts a brilliant luster to the surface. This bowl includes a stapled "make-do" repair to a crack from the rim, which extends 2" onto the underside, as well as a stapled repair to a 2" x 1 3/4" wedge at the rim elsewhere on the bowl. This stapled wedge also include a small filled and partially-colored piece at the rim. This bowl survives in otherwise excellent, as-made condition with no damage to interior.
