Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied open handles, featuring Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, the front additionally decorated with a brushed freehand vine, freehand stripes, various stenciled designs, and a freehand "4" with flourishes at base. Large sealed spidering crack on front. Very thin spidering cracks to right side, possibly in-the-firing. Crazing to shoulder, probably in-the-firing. L-shaped crack on underside. Some in-the-firing contact marks to surface. Traces of old paint to surface, primarily on reverse shoulder area.
