Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Star-Shaped Foliate Decoration, Virginia origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a cross-shaped cobalt design interspersed with foliate rays. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals and two additional foliate motifs emanating from the upper terminal. Excellent decoration and color. Restored handle. Lines and scaling throughout much of surface. A small in-the-firing chip to shoulder.
