Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a heavily-detailed chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Long T-shaped hairline and a second long very faint line on reverse. Minor chips on interior of rim. Minor nicks to one handle. Spots of staining. Tight Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing onto base, where it forms a second Y.
