Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER JR. / ROCHESTER, NY," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-shaped flower with shaded petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "4" to right of maker's mark. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. One handle reglued. Some small flakes to surface. Additional more significant exfoliation to base on reverse. Large chip to one handle. A shallow rim chip on reverse and a few rim nicks. A 5 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse.
