Alkaline-Glazed Southern Stoneware Double Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA, 20th century, ovoid jug with two applied handles, the body decorated on two sides with applied clay face including rock teeth and kaolin eyes. Surface covered in a mottled greenish alkaline glaze. Incised on underside "Lanier Meaders". A fine example of this highly-regarded Georgia potter's work. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in Massachusetts. Shallow 1/2" chip to one eyebrow. Shallow 1 1/8" chip to one ear, possibly in-the-firing. Chip to one tooth, presumably in-the-firing. H 9 1/4".
