Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid churn with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of a large plant bearing two different flower blossoms. Heavy shading throughout decoration. Slip-trailed script "4" above. Brushed highlight to maker's mark. Desirable maker, form, and decoration. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some fairly minor wear to cobalt.
