Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Ochre Floral Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1845, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a finely-brushed reddish-brown design of a flowering plant with central blossom flanked by two buds. Unusual form. Exfoliation to body. 9" crack from rim on reverse. X-shaped crack on underside, continuing partway up base of churn in three places. Other faint surface lines. Glazed-over 7/8" chip to handle. A few rim chips.
