Unusual Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, attributed to R.J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1880, with footed base and oval carving at shoulder, decorated with brushed swags around the body and cobalt around the opening. Top of spittoon covered in Albany slip. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 4 1/2" ; D 9".
