Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Large Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & CO. / ROCHESTER, NY," circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of two different flower blossoms emanating from a leafy base. Excellent detail to blossoms, including bull's-eye center and heavy shading to left flower, and elaborate striping to right flower. Slip-trailed "3." above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A striking example of Frederick Stetzenmeyer's work. Faint 9" vertical line extending from shoulder to base on reverse. 7/8" rim chip on right side of jar. Very tight Y-shaped hairline on underside, measuring approximately 6". Two reglued rim chips on left side, measuring a total of 1".
