Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, lavishly-decorated on the front and reverse with a large tulip plant bearing eight blossoms and two buds. A particularly fine, visually-striking example. Approximately 3" x 1 3/4" professionally-colored contact mark near base. An additional small professionally-colored contact mark near base on opposite side. Otherwise excellent condition with only minor flaws. Some surface lines on interior, not visible on exterior. A 2 1/2" faint line on exterior, which is visible on interior. Two faint, minor surface lines on exterior only, measuring 3" and 2".
