Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, NY," circa 1885, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail perched on a morning glory vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's and capacity marks. Restoration to underside and front base area, including restoration to a crack extending through base of plant partway into tail. An additional crack visible on underside, extending from the restored area. Restoration to a spot touching end of bird's wing. Chips and heavy wear to inner rim where a lid would rest.
