Eight-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1885, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with large slip-trailed design of a wreath with bow at base, surrounding the number "8". Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Some fry to cobalt, primarily to left edge. 8" crack from rim. 1 5/8" filled rim chip on right side of churn's front. In-the-firing contact mark on reverse.
