Scarce Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird on Stump Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO, NY," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a well-detailed bird with turned head and raised leg, standing atop a tree stump. Slip-trailed "6." to right of bird. Bird decorations by this New York State maker are considered difficult-to-find. 1 5/8" rim chip on reverse. A few shallow chips to interior of rim. Minor glazed-over chip to one handle.
