One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG PA," circa 1865, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout, decorated with two brushed tulips on the front and reverse, wreath-like brushwork surrounding the base of the spout, and cobalt highlights to the ears and handle terminals. Includes original wire-and-wood bail handle, as well as an old copper lid of unknown age. Fry to cobalt. Small chips and roughness to rim. Two faint short lines in spout. A 1 1/4" flake to one ear. Heavy chipping to handle at base. Two nicks to shoulder molding.
