Rare and Impressive Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, large-sized pitcher with ovoid body, footed base, and heaviy-tooled collar, decorated completely around the midsection with four very large cobalt tulips. Collar decorated with cobalt swags and hanging flowers. Heavy cobalt circles around handle terminals. Impressed "R.C.R. / PHILA" on shoulder and "2" on front. An outstanding signed example of Remmey's work. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from Washington, D.C. Some short, vertical surface lines at base. Spout chip. A small rim chip. A few short surface lines at base, possibly in-the-firing. H 14".
