Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration with Error Maker's Mark, Stamped "W T TROY / POTTERY.," West Troy Pottery, New York State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a leafy vine. Unusual error stamp, in which the "ES" is omitted from "WEST TROY POTTERY". Staining to base on reverse. Other spots of staining. 7 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. 1 3/8" rim flake on side of crock. Small stone ping and bit of adhered clay on bird's chest. A few other small rim chips.
