Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "R. C. R. / PHILA," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, with concave sides, footed base, and carved oval opening at shoulder, the circumference decorated with four large brushed tulips. Additional brushwork surrounding opening. Impressed with "R. C. R." maker's mark below opening. 1 3/8" rim chip. Thin cracks emanating from opening on top surface, with one crack continuing onto side of spittoon. This crack has a small amount of filler and coloring to it, and includes additional hairlines emanating from it. Approximately 3" area of restoration to base. 2 5/8" hairline to base. Some fry to cobalt. H 4 3/4" ; Diameter 8 1/4".
