Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Chicken Waterer with Cobalt Tulip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Haig, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, third quarter 19th century, beehive form with heavily-tooled top leading to a pointed finial, the sides fitted with arching tab handles, the front with covering opening leading to a water reservoir. Body heavily-decorated on the reverse and sides with a brushed cobalt tulip design, and on the front with leaves surrounding the watering trough. Brushed cobalt highlights over tops of handles. Shoulder impressed with two cobalt-highlighted circles. Excellent form, size, and decoration. Provenance: Clark and Palmer Antiques, Purcellville, VA. Finial reglued. Two shallow handle chips. Two shallow chips on underside at edge. Two extremely minor nicks to left edge of watering area. H 8 1/2".
