Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a large daisy with spotted center, accented with dashed strokes surrounding the petals. Excellent design with great color. Includes a salt-glazed lid, probably not original to the jar. Minor chip to end of one handle. Small chip to end of opposite handle. Shallow base chip on front. A typical in-the-making chip to underside near edge. A minor chip to exterior of rim. A small chip and minor chip on interior of rim. Wear to ledge on interior of rim where a lid would rest. Lid in excellent condition.
