Scarce Ovoid Jar with Manganese Glaze, Stamped "I. BELL," John Bell, Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1840, finely-potted, ovoid jar with footed base and coved rim, the surface covered in a blackish lead-and-manganese glaze. Impressed with early John Bell maker's at shoulder. Excellent form and desirable mark. Wear to surface and rim area. 1 1/2" rim chip. Two base chips. Hairlines on underside, which continue onto base area. H 7 1/2".
