Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Coggled Bird and Leaf Decoration, Philadelphia, PA or Old Bridge, NJ origin, early 19th century, finely-potted ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim, decorated with a repeating coggled design of a bird holding a leaf in its beak, highlighted with a brushed cobalt band. This example bears an impressed two-gallon capacity mark, unusual for coggle-decorated jars of this style. Excellent form and color. Base chips. Otherwise excellent condition.
