Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with shaded leaves and scalloped blossom. Slip-trailed "2" at shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Thin cracks at base on front, connecting to a 5 1/2" crack on underside near edge. A hairline on underside, extending 1" onto base. Reverse with 5/8" chip connected to a small U-shaped line. An additional nick to reverse surrounded by a U-shaped line. 5 1/2" Y-shaped surface line on reverse. Two chips on top of rim. Minor nick on interior of rim.
