Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Clover Decoration, Stamped "P. HERRMANN," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall collar accented with two tooled lines at the rim, the front decorated with a large two-stemmed clover plant extending up the front. Collar decorated with unusual fern-like brushwork. Excellent form, decoration, and color. One of the finest examples of Peter Herrmann stoneware we have seen. Loss to spout. Otherwise excellent condition with a 2" lightly-glazed contact mark to left side of pitcher's front, a tiny base nick, an in-the-firing nick to side of rim, and a minor nick to molding at base of collar.
