Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY NY / POTTERY," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a chicken with nicely-detailed wing and body, pecking kernels of corn from a grassy lawn. Excellent decoration and unusual form, wider than most New York State crocks of this capacity. Approximately 9" restored Y-shaped crack on left side of front. 7 3/4" and 4 1/2" restored areas on reverse. A restored rim chip on side of crock. Faint 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. Restored area at base on left side of crock. Two small chips to one handle.
