Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Bird-on-Fence Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY / N.Y. / POTTERY," circa 1875, large-sized cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a very large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on the top of fence with grasses and stylized ground below. Unusual circular embellishments to the joints along the fence. An impressive, very folky figural design. Chip to side of spout. Two hairlines in spout. Long, tight line at very base of jug, possibly in-the-firing. Some fry to cobalt.
