Rare Eight-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Incised Foliate Decoration, Ohio origin, third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with squared rim and large applied tab handles, decorated with an incised design of two leafy stems extending from a stylized stump of pot. Two daisy-shaped blossoms near base of design. Light cobalt highlights throughout. Large and well-detailed "8" with cobalt highlights below rim. A stone ping to both handle. Opposite handle with large chip on underside and 2" line. Stone ping on reverse. 5/8" shallow chip to front of rim and two minor stone pings in rim. Tight lines on underside and base, two of which extend several inches up body of jar. H 18 3/4".
