One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Slip-Trailed Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "J.M. PRUDEN / ELIZABETH-NJ," circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the reverse with an elaborate looping drape design below three wavy stripes. Maker's mark with slip-trailed border. Strong decoration with excellent color. Provenance: Newark Museum Catalog, 1948. Chip on interior of rim. 1 1/2" hairline from rim above one handle.
