Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON NY," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, striped breast, and spotted wing. An unusually small-sized crock for this popular Roberts decoration. Professionally-restored crack from rim on reverse, extending onto underside. Some light bubbling to cobalt.
