Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Daisy Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid pitcher with tall collar and tooled shoulder, decorated with an artistic, slip-trailed design of a daisy plant with heavily-shaded leaves and petals. Cross-hatched center to blossom and brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable form. Large painted section to spout area, some of which is peeling. The extent of the underlying damage is difficult to determine. Minor chip to interior of rim on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition.
