Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Deer Scene, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design of a deer with turned head and spotted body, reclining atop a hill with fences and trees in the foreground and background. A rare-sized jar featuring a highly-prized Norton design, which should be restored properly. Significant restoration throughout much of jar, including large areas of decoration.
