Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, ovoid, keg-form cooler with cobalt-highlighted banding and circular bung hole accented with slip-trailed spots. Midsection profusely-decorated with a large floral spray extending around the sides and accented with dotted trails. A piece exhibiting excellent size, form, and decoration, by one of the nation's premiere potteries. Excellent condition with a 4 3/8" vertical surface line at midsection on reverse, a chip on interior of rim, and a chip to bottom of spigot.
