Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with squared rim and applied tab handles, decorated with brushed cobalt clover plant design bearing two blossoms. Additional cobalt brushed over tops of handles. An unusually-small size for a jar of this style. Most Baltimore jars of this size are found in a cylindrical, handleless form. Numerous thin cracks in underside, extending onto base. Two salt drips at base. Two minor horizontal lines in rim. A shallow, in-the-firing chip to end of one handle. H 8".
